A Child-Friendly Society harms no one. That's the idea. Aim for harmony at that level, and you hit a bulls-eye in all other targets, regardless of the age group involved. If we examine each one closely, we would find that most of the aberrations or acts of aggression found in society today started out as compensations for some deficit that existed in childhood: lack of time, lack of love, lack of freedom, support, attention, even lack of direction and personal grounding. You name it, and all roads lead back to that period of life.

For purposes of this discussion, the term "aberration" goes beyond the idea of something that is merely atypical. It would refer to some act or proclivity which brings shock and discomfort to those who observe it. And truly, that would probably be its purpose. It vies for our attention, while making a statement. It says: "I'm doing this, and I don't care what you think about it." The term "addiction" has a similar flavor to it, since "diction" means "speech." When we practice addictive behaviors we are trying to say something to ourselves, or those around us, that we haven't been able to put into words.

Minding the little things
It has been said: "Mind your pennies, and your dollars will take care of themselves." It has also been said: "To thine own self be true, and it will follow, as the night the day, thou can not then be false to any man."

If we mind the little things, the simple things, the personal things, then big things get handled automatically. Why? Mostly because big things are made up of little things gathered together and focused towards a common goal. In The Imagine Nation we practice egalitarian living across the board, because everything in life exists to bring balance and nourishment to everything else. Each viewpoint offers insight into levels of collective wellbeing that wouldn't be noticed if its voice was held silent. Some physicists refer to this as “The Butterfly Effect.”

If an adult viewpoint is allowed to dominate in society it throws our emotional ecology out of balance. A dominant childish viewpoint would also be unhealthy. The point being discussed here is "child-friendliness," not regression away from responsibility.

In The Imagine Nation, two-year-olds have as much choice as any other person, as long as their pursuit of interest does not infringe upon the freedom of others. To the extent that it does, each person (regardless of age) will be reminded of the rules: “Do no harm.” Limiting others' freedom and flow is harmful to them! When it comes to properly caring for small children, we all know that “it takes a village." In The Imagine Nation, the village is more than happy to comply.

Society now believes that taking time to socialize and embrace children, teaching them "the ropes" as they participate within it, would cost way too much (in time and productivity) and would inhibit human progress. Therefore, we corral them in schools for twelve years, where poorly paid individuals drill them on math skills and history, limiting their freedom and dominating their time schedules. Meanwhile, the "dog eat dog" business world is allowed to barrel on, full-throttle, with no innocent faces or tiny feet to modulate its energy.

There are no simple questions or honest reactions that can be directed within the raw intensity of this jungle rhythm. And there are no "time-outs" to explain the way things work to those who long to participate. They're all hidden away in classrooms, so tiny feet will not get in the way. By the time those tiny feet are grown, and allowed admittance to the Big Dance, their innocence is all but gone--hardened into a host of compensatory behaviors, either compliance or defiance, so the jungle rhythm can continue, unchecked.

The real "waste of time and expense," inhibiting human progress, is seen in the huge amounts of resource that must be channeled into the judicial and penal system, to deal with compensatory behaviors that have run amok because society was not made child-friendly right from the start. Young people, old people, sick people and infirmed - all must be included, and honored as part of the ONE. Only through the integration of all viewpoints and voices will collective wisdom be attained.

Oh, and our Military and Defense Budget? Such a waste. There would be little need for it if women and children were given equal say. After all, war is not healthy for children and other living things. They would remind us of this, if we took time to listen.

Protecting the Child Within
Naturally, discussions about this kind of divergence from current practice give rise to arguments about the safety of the children involved. After all, don’t they need someone to watch out for them? If they joined us in society, elbow-to-elbow, wouldn't they get hurt? The answer could be yes or it could be no. A fully awake and functioning Child of the New Earth contains, within his or her internal software, all the energetic powers necessary to keep him safe and on track for his entire journey in physical form.

These powers follow him, very much like the "force" described in the movie Star Wars. We just haven’t noticed it, nor have we given it a chance to work. This energy has been kept asleep within all but a few of us. Those "few" are called geniuses. There are far more geniuses in our society than any of us realize. All we need to do is to get some of the “entrenched” idiots out of their way, so they can finally be recognized for what they are.

The determination of who is considered “proper” or “improper” to care for a child or to decide his fate needs to rest with the child. We have already seen the miserable mess that courts and social agencies tend to afford us, when they elevate themselves to the lofty position of arbiter of social wisdom. Yes, there will be abuses. But the people who perpetrate them are usually those who have been previously damaged by the very system that we are seeking here to change.

Currently, in the interests of providing “security” for the vulnerable child, we have placed our own judgment and adult “wisdom” above his or her survival instinct and personal intuitive powers. As a result, administrative costs for the social regulation and legal system have become astronomical, and the abuses on children just keep getting worse.

This is all going to take some time and patience. Letting go of control is difficult. It’s like coming up from swimming underwater. If you do it too rapidly, you get the bends! When the Children of Israel left Egypt for the promised land, they were forced to wander in the wilderness for 40 years, until their “old guard” died off, and let the younger folk move past them. I sincerely hope that this doesn’t have to happen to the Baby Boomers.

Integrating viewpoints will probably take place in para-professional, self-help groups, where "Clans and Tribes" are allowed to function---like those experiments that have been conducted on communal living in The Bio-Sphere. More and more, little "Imagine Nations" will spring up, acting out philosophies that have been brewing in the collective heart for eons.

An Option, Not a Mandate
Jesus said: “Unless ye become as little children, ye shall not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” I am inclined to agree with him on that. But even that is beside my point here. The “Imagine Nation” is a society built on Oneness, and an appreciation for our infinite collective diversity. It doesn’t place kids at the center of things. Rather, it is designed to even the playing field so that natural giftedness can move forward at whatever age it appears. It would be child-friendly, not child-dominant. Some of the principles discussed will have great meaning in regards to senior citizens, as well.

Even within the template we are designing here, there will be those who will feel most comfortable and secure when they are following leaders or mentors in their daily schedule. They may choose even to live at home with parents well into their 40s, and be completely happy with it. The key factor we are emphasizing here is the word “choose”. Do children get to choose whether they are dependent or not? Or is that choice made for them already?

There are many young people today who are coming into their remembrance. The influx of emotional and spiritual awareness, in many cases, feels like a slap in the face when experienced within the confines of our current system of living. It is no wonder that many of them are dropping out, or refusing to engage altogether. But that doesn't mean they are doomed to complete obscurity. If small numbers of people gather together in Clans and Tribes and begin doing things a different way, sooner or later their efforts will attract the attention of others. Little by little, the numbers and the societal influence of those in The Imagine Nation will begin to influence the flow of society as a whole.

In the early 1970s, the Federation of Damanhur was organized in Italy. Its purpose was to build a model society centered on spiritual and ego awareness. It has its own internal government, its own currency, and its own constitution. Thousands of people have visited or lived in Damanhur since its inception. The community continues to live in harmony with the Italian Government. Everyone realizes it is a social experiment. one that has earned considerable respect and has produced a host of new insights on what people need and what works for them in a focused interest cluster.

Many communal organizations have been created, since the early 1960s to act as "Bio-Spheres" for testing new theories about human dynamics. The more the merrier, so long as they remain Child-Friendly! And it will follow, as the night the day, that they will not become false to anyone, regardless of age.

There are those who are so discouraged with society today that they long to simply get away, start over, and forget what came before. But that would be unwise. Those who do not pay attention to the lessons of history are doomed to repeat it. We don't need to re-invent the wheel here. But we can take some time to try out new tracks upon which we can run the various kinds of wheels that we already have. And, if we "go apart" from the mainstream, in order to practice some new ideas, we must remember to "come back together" with it, so we can share what we have learned.

As always, the most important question we need to keep asking is not “Is this possible?” If we start there, nothing gets done. Instead, we need to keep asking: “Is this what I want?” If it truly is, then nothing will stop us from finding a way to make it all happen. As the saying goes: “Nothing can stop an idea whose time has come.”

Next month, in our final segment in this series, I will discuss some ideas for transitioning from what we’re doing now to what we might want to be doing down the line. And then, we’ll wait a bit. New ideas, planted in the psyche, need time to germinate and develop. Then, we’ll come at it again from other angles.

My deep thanks to those who are commenting to me, privately, about these studies. Your input helps these concepts to grow and develop, and helps to ground me from becoming so heavenly-minded that I am no earthly good! Have a great month.
