Red Dust Storm Envelops Australia and New Zealand
"Australia's biggest city was again bathed in an eerie glow on Saturday as dust from the continent's red desert centre settled over the city for the second time in one week.Wild winds whipped up dust storms across Queensland and New South Wales, Australia's most populous state, overnight, bringing fresh clouds of grit from thousands of kilometres away, the weather bureau said.
Satellite pictures showed a band of dust about 200 kilometres wide, sweeping from central Australia towards the east coast, with visibility in Sydney limited to five kilometres, said forecaster Barry Hanstrum.
"We've got an area of widespread dust, but not as thick as it was on Wednesday," said Hanstrum, referring to the freak red storm that choked Sydney earlier this week. "It's likely to clear through the metropolitan area through mid-morning."Millions of tonnes of dust smothered northeastern Australia in a rust-red dawn on Wednesday which ground air and harbour transport to a halt and left hundreds of people hospitalised with breathing problems.
Strong winds following the hottest August on record sucked up dust from a decade-long drought in what experts said was the biggest such incident to hit Sydney since 1942." MORE
My Dear friend Telani, who lives in the area, reported it this way:
"Wow! What an interesting week in terms of energies. Waking up on the 23rd to an orange world was pretty weird, Daniel, so eerie and totally unexpected. I am sure you got to see coverage of this in the US. Our next door neighbour said a friend called from India to see if she was ok. I felt quite fiery and had a type of barometric headache as a result of the atmosphere. Was red dust on the ground, covering cars, on our clothes. Lots of coughing on the train as the dust came thru' the air conditioning. I really felt it was a portent of sorts, a sign from the air elemental kingdom. Something is coming.....!"
It wasn't long before the dust had settled on neighboring New Zealand. Some call it "The Beginning of Armageddon........" Of course, from my own viewpoint, Armaggedon began years ago, and has been raging on the Inner Planes. Blessings to all our Dear Friends in OZ! Stay safe, and hold the balance!

Remembering Mary Travers: 1936-2009
I cannot begin to express the sadness that flows through me at the passing of Folk Singer Mary Travers. She died today, at the age of 72, after a long struggle with Leukemia. The picture above, which was one of her personal album covers, is how I remember her most.....how I worshipped her as a fledgling folk singer in my teens. The singing group Peter, Paul, and Mary became a near-obsession with me when I was a junior-senior in High School. It continued through college, and a warm remembrance of those days remains with me still.
My friends.......and fellow singers....... Paula, Gail, Pam, Chris, and Dave........over the years....made it a point to sing just about every P, P, and M song we could find. The group appeared regularly, like clock work, at Long Beach Arena (in our native California), Spring and Fall......where Paula and I would dutifully attend, sing, and clap along. The next night they would often go to Santa Monica Civic, and we'd be there again. THAT'S how highly we valued the vibration of their music.
I'll never forget how their concerts started in those days. Their first set would (most often) begin with Dylan's "When the Ship Comes In".....and Mary's velvet platinum hair would toss to and fro with such power and authority that the group seemed to lift off and fly across the stage. Her wondrous deep voice could alternate between the golden soft tones of a lullaby and the cool, clean sharpness of surgical steel......cutting open a person's chest and laying bare his heart for rejuvenation and repair! I'll miss you, Dear One! But then again.......not really. Because you've always been a part of my heart!

"And when I die and
when I'm dead, dead and gone,
there'll be one child born and a world to carry on
there'll be one child born to carry on.
I'm not scared of dying and I don't really care.
If it's peace you find in dying, well, then let the time be near.
If it's peace you find in dying, when dying time is here,
just bundle up my coffin cause it's cold way down there,
And when I die and when I'm dead, dead, and gone,
there'll be one child born and a world to carry on, to carry on."~Laura Nyro.

Rallying the Troops: Health Care Reform
Confident, articulate, optimistic, respectful---President Obama still envisions a country where all "sides" can come together. Class Warfare is really Racism, packed in a plain brown wrapper. Even talks of rescuing the "Middle Class" wreak of bigotry. Having lots of money does NOT make a person "Upper." And simplicity of lifestyle does not automatically banish a person to the bottom of the "food chain."
Conservative Protestors are teaching America, 8 years too late, how we could have kept our troops out of Iraq. But is the end worth the means? Would George W. have handled this degree of protest with an equal amount of grace and restraint? Regarding the impudent accuser of Obama, one pundit reminded us: "At least they're not throwing shoes yet."
