NEW YORK HACK
This is really neat. Meet Melissa Plaut, a New York Cab Driver who started her own Blog on what it's like to be a New York Cab Driver. It's called New York Hack. I guess she's been blogging for awhile, and someone from the Associated Press caught wind of it. That's how I found out about her. Their article was picked up by Yahoo, and as soon as I saw what was going on, I had to have a look. Click HERE for article.
In my opinion, this is a bit of history in the making. My son tells me that blogging has been big since the 2000 elections, when the bloggers seemed to be the only ones who were speaking unmitigated truth out here. The rest of the newscasters have been putting on a "Puppet Show" as Jon Stewart, star of Comedy Central's "Daily Show," once put it.
And thus, a new "medium" of communication springs to life. Exciting, huh? Here we have everyday folks....who take digital pictures with a personal camera....and post them, along with commentary, for all to see. I think it's magnificent!!!
You can keep track of Melissa by visiting her at: http://newyorkhack.blogspot.com . I've loved reading her the last few days. I especially loved the picture of a black woman, driving by in a fancy car, flipping her the bird. Says Melissa: "I still don't know what I did to piss her off, but she was kind enough to hold still while I took her picture."
Melissa mixes a pleasant, flowing style of grammar with regular street smarts, occasionally throwing in the "F" word, where it makes sense to have it. She's a great example of just plain folks, doing what we do everyday, to try and make a buck. I love it. It's so much better than some reality show on TV.
Paul Simon once said: "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls." Amen to that!
But now.....Paul can add one more place that we can look for wisdom. Next time you take a cab in New York, lean forward and take time to talk with your cabbie. The words of a prophet may just be sitting in some Word Document on her laptop, waiting for her to push "send."
INTIMATES
"Don't you care for my love?" she said bitterly.
I handed her the mirror, and said:
"Please address these questions to the proper person!
Please make all requests to head-quarters!
In all matters of emotional importance
please approach the supreme authority direct!" --
So I handed her the mirror.
And she would have broken it over my head,
but she caught sight of her own reflection
and that held her spell bound for two seconds
while I fled.

Wild Ride!!!
DJ: 1/8/06. This week has been a true test of my will to remain at the Center of my Inner Circle, rather than rolling off into some extreme. A huge feminine infusion (feeling centers activated and upgraded) came in, which turns up the volume on any and everything that may have been loitering in my consciousness, but not taking a stand. Some afternoons, I can only sleep and meditate, looking for whatever "handle" I need to gain on the next levels of the journey. They always come, and my little meditation/rest cycles are my way of admitting that our job, at these levels of vibration, cannot be focused in WILL.........or that part of our faculties would have fried, long ago.
These reports are coming in from many directions. A woman's boyfriend over here is signed up to receive electro shock treatments for depression, while another woman feels to be stuck on the emotional "rocks" of mental armoring versus opening to feelings. Car accidents abound, as we go around giving each other "love taps" to assist us in accessing our feeling and processing centers. It's a great time to be in the Muscular Rehab business, to be sure.....! And LETTING GO OF CONTROL seems to be the order of the day. I appreciated that quote, mentioned at the top of the Upcoming Event Flyer.........which I encountered on someone's blog this week. Very timely! Reconnections are everywhere.
Five hundred twenty five thousand
six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty five thousand
moments so dear
Five hundred twenty five thousand
six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?
In daylight, sunsets, in midnights,
in cups of coffee,In inches, in miles
in laughter, in strife,
Five hundred twenty five thousand
six hundred minutes
How do you measure a year in the life?
We don't see the world as it is. We see the world as WE are."

Embracing Experience
DJ: Anais Nin. What a great way to start the year! She has so much to teach us, as we stroll our merry way. This morning, she is teaching me about life purpose. And I found myself babbling away, with a friend on the phone, talking about the CENTER that is created through discovering our life purpose. Or shall we say life porpoise.......?
As Anais put it: "My WORK first, then. My power as an artist shaken, and then what other power have I? My natural stimulation, my vitality, my true imagination, my health, my creative aliveness.......I feel tonight that I want to embrace ALL experience......that I can do so without danger......."
This woman leaves no stones unturned in the emotional realms. She is a sight to behold. I have a whole stack of new books to run through.......and lots of insights about life, love, and beingness to ponder.
And, by the way........I just finished John Irving's awesome book, called "Until I Find You." It's an amazing thing, as is he. I was originally attracted to him through an interview I saw on John Stewart's "The Daily Show," and I just KNEW I had to read this book. It has not failed to excite. Lots of powerful themes explored in there..........among them: childhood sexual abuse for boys, being raised solely in the company of women, male-female integration issues, the whole underworld of Tatoos, great whirlwind tours of Europe........and many other things. Father-Son VOIDS are prominent, and I certainly have done my share of working through mine--even though my father and I were close enough, and I was with him at the end.
It's very worth the bucks. Still in hard back. Highly recommended.
And also while we're at it: THE FAMILY STONE. An absolutely AWESOME film experience! I total endorse this pic. It was a sleeper, a surprise, and a delight. It's like standing in the middle of an intersection, and getting hit by 6 cars all at once.......each one symbolizing an emotion, or power theme of life. Variable, DEEEEEP and Hilarious! Sarah Jessica deserves an Oscar Nomination for comedy.
