"Schizophrenia, Bipolar Consciousness, and Other Shamanic Traits"

B Y   D A N I E L   J A C O B

The basic difference between a Schizophrenic and a Spiritual Channel is the attitude of the person who is doing the perceiving.  Also, it can rest in the intensity and clarity of what is coming to and through him.  If a person is afraid of what's happening inside, and it disrupts his life, he will go to a doctor and get pills, therapy, or ask to be put in a safe space for a time.  There is nothing wrong in this. Fear is a natural part of life, and is experienced by everyone at some time or other.  If the pills and therapy work, then the problem has been addressed for the time being. His "cure" will last as long as it lasts.

If the pills or therapy seem to wear off, and nothing new can be added to affect his situation, the patient may want to consider that he isn't "sick" at all.  He is actually "gifted."  Now.......before you have me drawn and quartered for saying this (!).......please let me explain. And what I will tell you comes from my own internal guidance in life---my own "voices," of you will---and will either resonate with you or it will not.  And that, too, is as it should be. You can take what you like and leave the rest.

Each person who enters the World of Form comes here to study or experience something.  You might say that he is a "Gamer," and 3D Reality is his Video Game.  We each create our own journey, our own "itinerary," if you will.......and the contracts for that journey are laid down long before we are born.  I am speaking from a standpoint of Linear Continuity (past-present-future) because that is how most people believe the world works. However, those whose perceptual apparatus has been "altered" can attest to the fact that this is not exactly how things always are.

In their transmission "How Universes Are Formed," The Reconnections explain in detail how a person moves from being an "Immortal"......a Multiversal Spirit Being......to becoming human......with a body, mind, emotions, and a mission in life.  I won't go into all of that here, except to pinpoint the idea of various "bubble realities" that are formed around certain needs for expansion and learning.  With the formation of a "reality bubble," or "reality box," a person becomes insulated from the rest of who he is (in spirit), and he is enabled to focus completely on one context of life, and one perspective about the meaning of that life.

We don't create our experience from nothing.  We create it from the EVERYTHING that is all around us, and we pare our perceptions down from there.  Whatever doesn't interest us, we wrap in what's called a "Veil," and whatever DOES interest us we place center stage, so we won't be able to miss it as we grow.  The Veil of Forgetfulness is a semi-permeable etheric membrane that insulates and separates the consciousness of a person in 3D, so that he (or she) is free to focus solely on what he came here to do.

Some people are born with a tight Veil, strong and durable.  Others are not "wrapped" so tightly.  Their Veils are thin, like the walls in a cheap hotel.  What goes on in the "other rooms" of that hotel is not always completely filtered out.  The following video provides a clear example of what many schizophrenics go through, as they seek to differentiate their own personal experience with what is going on in the "other rooms" at that cheap hotel.

A person who is born into this inner experience has no way of sorting out the signals he or she is experiencing.  It all seems like a ride at some amusement park---except, after awhile, the person on the ride ceases to be amused!  That's when the pills and doctors come into the picture.  For a person to transform Schizophrenia into Shamanism, there must be a clear willingness on the part of that person to do so.  Without that willingness, both the person and the folks who surround him or her only want to "get rid of the weirdness," nothing more.

A review of the material on "Global Acceleration Syndrome" will expand what I am about to say.  The rest of it is being added now.  And I'm sure there will be much, much more added later on.  When we're speaking about G.A.S., we're referring to a "disease" that has no diagnosis.  If it HAD a diagnosis, there would be a medical treatment to address it.  In fact, the primary criteria for considering that we are going through Global Acceleration Syndrome is:  We cannot find anything in our world to treat these symptoms.  So......we have to accept them and begin looking at things in a new way.

It was once written:  "If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."  To me, this is medicine for a hungry soul. The determination of what is real is a matter of perception rather than existence.  Everything exists, but not everything is perceived.  The universes we create are perceptual, not objective.  Indeed, the more Quantum Physics studies the nature of reality, the less "objective" reality seems to be.

When a person begins noticing things that others do not, he tends to become worried.  Or, perhaps, he becomes exultant.  As I said, attitude plays a big role in how we all deal with "new" stuff.  Another consideration is whether or not the perceiver is able to develop some sort of outlet for his feelings or visions---such as art, music, or creative writing.

"The basic difference between me and an insane man is:  I am not insane!"

~Salvador Dali

When a Veil is thin, or when it becomes damaged through some traumatic injury, sensory impressions will begin entering a person's consciousness through that porous or punctured membrane.  These impressions are LIVING BEINGS, who exist in worlds all their own.  Those worlds may not vibrate at the density of 3D, but they are "real" nonetheless.  In essence, we are as much a part of their "waking dream" as they are a part of ours. Our sensitivity to the goings on in their world can attract attention---and many of them will come and poke fun at 3D folks who are trying to be insulated but can't seem to hold onto their boundaries.

Another element that can open up a hole in the Veil is drug usage.  There are many people who describe themselves as going on "a trip" when they take certain chemicals.  Some of these chemicals are elements we see everyday around the house.  Others need to be prescribed by a doctor or obtained from a Holy Man or Shaman.  Capricious or Intentional Experimentation with Drugs accounts for a huge number of cases involving people who come to consider themselves insane.

And while we're at it, could we re-consider the usage of this term "insane?"  In the medical literature, a person is considered "insane" or "mad" if he (or she) continually flouts societal norms and becomes a danger to himself or others.  Those who are "weird" but not dangerous are considered "eccentric," "disordered," or well........ just WEIRD.

Once again, the vigor with which such persons are "handled" by society largely depends upon the protestations of their family and friends, the amount of trouble they cause in the lives of others, or their own expressed fear and discomfort.

Those things a person "sees" or "hears" are totally real.  They are like alternative stations on the radio dial of life.  They are simply being "broadcast" at a different frequency than the "home base" of the person who is picking up the signals.  The Reconnections cover this at length in their material on Multidimensionality.

In the movie "A Beautiful Mind," this topic is dealt with also in vivid detail.  It's a fascinating story of famed Mathematician John Nash, who suffered from Schizophrenia for the better portion of his adult life.  How he dealt with his "gifts," and what they come to mean to him is a nice piece of what we're talking about here. I highly recommend the film.

John Forbes Nash:  "A Brilliant Madness" ( Excerpts from 8 part series)

The "cures" society provides for conditions like Schizophrenia are as dodgy and controversial as the condition itself. Electro-Shock Therapy is still in usage today.  It's not only used as a "reset button" for the brain of Schizophrenics, it is also applied to Chronic Depression as well.  Medications sometimes bring relief, but they must always be updated, or today's solution becomes tomorrow's problem.  If it works, we try not to "fix" it.  If it doesn't, we tend to go to any lengths to find relief and/or direction for our lives.

When society or the medical profession calls a person "crazy" or "insane," what they are really saying is:  "I don't understand what's happening with you."  That's all.  Their air of superiority or expertise is only as convincing and comprehensive as the belief system of those who are being attended by them.  In truth, there are many patients who slip through the "cracks" of our current medical system.  They do so because they are MEANT to do so.  They are PROGRAMMED to do so.  They came into this life to have a "vacation in limitation" and they're not going to leave until they get it.  The belief that every person is sovereign in the creation of his or her life experience, regardless of how things appear, is strongly taught by most Metaphysical Teachers and Spirit Guides.  It's hard to comprehend, however, especially in extreme cases.

The delineation of "Shamanic," when applied to certain psychological states, is entirely arbitrary.  Each person has to address these issues for him or herself.  Otherwise, society will do it for them.  To be a "Shaman" is to be a Gatekeeper for the Expanded Realms.  In my article on Shamanic Androgyny, I explain the Shamanic function thusly:

"The term "Berdache" is a French European application of an ancient tradition which spans many reality contexts. It is a GIFT, an ability that has become an  entire state of consciousness.  In a nutshell, these  dear people have the capacity---usually from birth---  to feel into both sides of the human polarity spectrum.  Therefore, if you are a Berdache male, you would have all the physical/mental faculties and predispositions that accompany that gender  assignment plus you would be able to access all of  the emotions, thought patterns, and subconscious imagery that a female has as well.  The same is true (in reverse) of Berdache females.

The "Berdache" are also known as llahamana,  adonisgi, gatekeepers, nadle, mexago, winkte, yirka- la ul, and i-wa-wisp. They are those individuals who, because of their essential energetic androgyny, have the power to enter the Otherworld. This is  NOT a sexual orientation. It is spiritual.  Some Berdache are gay, but that is more a choice of  action, a preference, than it is a mandate for the  usage of this gift.

The indigenous thought about the Other World, the  realm of the Gods, is that it is a realm of ONENESS.  The Gods or spirits are both masculine and feminine  in one. Though a certain spirit might manifest  before a human in either a masculine or feminine  character, it is---at it's core---BOTH genders.

The Berdache are special in the fact that they carry  this androgynous energy---the energy of the Gods.  It is what makes them able to exist both in physical  form and also "journey" into the other realms as  well.  Hermes Trismegastrus and the Egyptian God  THOTH were both examples of this propensity for  androgyny.  In fact, the term "hermaphrodite"  (Hermes+ Aphrodite) refers to the marriage of the archetypal male and female (these two were the children of Zeus).  This important predisposition is seen clearly in the African culture.  In childbirth, the spirit of the fetus is exhorted through the voice of the mother. It is at  this time that the "energy" of it's soul is examined by the village Shaman. Certain souls who possess  this androgyny are seen to be "blessed from birth."  They are called "the holy ones." It is in this African  tradition that the name of "Gatekeeper" is given to the child. Many preparations are made to welcome it into the community, including the giving  of an appropriate name to "harmonize" with it's sacred purpose."  <end excerpt>

The term "Bi-Polar," then......refers to a person whose internal emotional landscape is not "tilted" towards one pole or the other.  They carry BOTH POLES.  And, because they dwell within a society that is highly polarized, in many ways, their minds have a hard time adapting to seeing things from only ONE side of the experiential spectrum.  Thus, the application of the term "manic-depressive."  The same could be said of "hot-cold" or any other type of natural polarization. Shamans possess power to come at life from many angles, many viewpoints.

Our word today is in a state of intensive change.  No longer are the traits described above being given to a "privileged few," within a native village setting.  Shamanic Traits are now being freely distributed, most especially among Generations X, Y, Z, and those who are destined to come after.

The proclaimed titles of "mystic, shaman, seer, and sage" are now being given to those whose powers of expanded perception have moved beyond the realms of natural fear.  Through intensive adaptation to who they are, and through deep inner work---their fear and dysfunction is being replaced by a sense of power and purpose.  As Planet Earth continues to change, these formerly "dysfunctional folk" are finding a functionality and esteem that was beyond their wildest early imaginations of what they wished their lives to be.

In the transmission by the above name, The Reconnections have this to say about the "new breed" of individuals who are coming in to assist our planet as she goes through her birthing process:

"Everything is in a state of change.  Life is moving at such a velocity that you, as physical beings, are straining to keep pace with all the "new" ideas and energies that present themselves for your knowledge and experience.

The Spirituality of the Nineties was a hybrid creature.  It was a mixture of knowledge and traditions that are as new as last Monday, and as old as the trees and stony guardians that stand along the coastline and commune with the sea.  In the same way that the United States has become a "melting pot" for the Earth, gathering together a vast number of  beings---diverse in race, creed, and national origin---so the faith that ushers in this New Era has become a kind of "soup" that is made up of the best and most flavorful portions of nearly every religious and philosophical tradition that has come before, plus some new elements that are just now making their entrance into physical life and reality.

With a banner of Universal Oneness flying from it's tallest tower, this new creation, which could probably best be called "Millennial Spirituality," is coming into view from behind the smoke of dissention, and the religio-imperialism that has so characterized the last 2000 years.

From the gunshots and angry cries of the Protestant/Catholic uprisings in Belfast, Northern Ireland, to the "Holy Wars" of the Middle East, past the shouts and the complaints of the Humanistic Political Activists, the calls for separation that come from the Aryan Brotherhood, or over threats of hellfire and brimstone from the Religious Right,  comes a soft and gentle song that promises to unite instead of divide, and bring healing where once
there was injury.

This is the Spirit that will carry Planet Earth through the "Eye of the Needle," and into the Fourth Dimension.  Many voices will cry out, citing reason after reason to cling to the "old ways" of the sword.  Still, when the smoke clears away (as it surely will), the vision remaining will be one of peace, tolerance, inner exploration (rather than outer expansion), and goodwill toward men!  Yesterday was the "promise."  Soon will come the fulfillment.

As leadership for this "new" experience, we can surely accept nothing less than the BEST of what has come before.  Whether one visualizes them as resurrected, born again, the result of reincarnation, or simply Gods and Goddesses come down to mix with mortals---there will appear shortly, upon the face of the Earth, a race of priests and rulers---the souls of ancient and beloved Shamans and Druids, come back to experience the final "act" of this play.

Indeed, they live and breathe upon the planet as we speak.  Many of them have purposefully "forgotten" who and what they are.   They wake up to normal jobs, as did Richard Bach's "reluctant Messiah," yet they surely are not "normal."  They sit beside you at the diner, shop in your grocery stores, and lie on beaches reading books and magazines.

These are the Children of Oneness, aged and seasoned to meet the need which shall surely soon present itself!  Though they were born "from the old ways" and steeped in ancient customs and bygone disciplines, they return today to stand beneath the Tree of Life.   As thunder rolls and temporary chaos shakes the Tree, these wise and wondrous beings shall catch the ripe fruit, precisely where it falls.

Your world systems, your planetary alignments, your modes of thought and manner of living, are soon to transform.  Crafty forces within your governments, angry citizens without---rush at each other.....O! So silently ............neither one comprehending the storehouse of terrors that each has directed against the other.

The Heart of Polarity is to be broken at last!  It's template thrown hard against a granite wall, and shattered into a million shards.  Each "piece" is a universe unto itself.  You have, no doubt, heard the prophetic utterances concerning the ends of the Earth.  There are to be earthquakes, and plagues, thundering, and gnashing of teeth.   The armies of the East will face the battalions of the West---mirroring Northern and Southern brethren from the now distant Civil War.

Each prophecy shall surely come to pass.  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, the prism of this density will shatter and divide---each separate faith and expectation shall claim it's followers and set out upon it's chosen path.  All that will remain of this universe of transformation, which we have called "The Grand Central Station of Transformation," will be the broken chains of limitation and the torn ticket stubs of karmic choosing---recent reminders to the Children of Oneness, of the throngs of individuals whose trains have long departed.

The path of the Neo-Shaman is not an easy one.  The conflicts within him (or her) are manifold.  This is because each "side" of the Neo-Shaman is an EXACT OPPOSITE of the other!  As we have said, he will ALWAYS have within his heart a desire to belong and to merge with those around him. Neo-Shamans are quite social beings at heart.

Still, innately knowing the effects that can be produced by the smoldering of his "white hot cinders," each of these leaders will often elect to live, for long periods of time, in solitary fashion.  He will be "in the world" but not "of it."  Until he fully awakens to discover and admit to himself (or herself) what he/she truly is, this sense of "separateness" will cause the Neo-Shaman to feel somewhat like an alien."  <end excerpt>

The purpose of this article is to acquaint those who are among us, in possession of Shamanic Powers and Pespectives, that there are other ways of viewing their lives besides being "crazy, insane, or weird."  More information will be added as it becomes available.  Until then, each person of us must construct a mental framework which accurately and KINDLY integrates who and what we are with everything we see and hear (both inwardly and outwardly).

There are no "experts" where humanity is going now, even though people all around us would LOVE to have us think so.  There are only people whose life stories and thought processes resonate highly with our own. Each human on Planet Earth deserves basic respect and consideration.  That being said, it also behooves each of us to freely admit when the "Labor Pains" of our personal "unfoldment" tend to interfere with or cut into the life process of others.

In approaching our Growth Process, it's best to begin at PERFECTION (completeness) and reason backwards from there.  The article "How to Figure Stuff Out" tells us how to do this.  By giving up the notion that life is something which just HAPPENS to us, and letting go of victim mentality, a good deal of the "kinks" which trouble our minds will instantly depart.  When things are seen from a Muliversal Perspective, and fed through a grid of Perfection, they look quite different than what screams at us from the media, our families or friends.

In the day-to-day disposition of our lives, I recommend taking "Three Commitments" which seem to keep matters in perspective even when the waters around our boat get choppy, and the path ahead seems dark.  If you have questions about this process, or experiences around this topic you would like to share, feel free to write me

In closing, I will turn your attention to Kahlil Gibran's precious words on the subject of "pain."  I know that many have suffered.  My ex-wife ended her own life in 1985, as a by-product of chronic depression and symptoms suggesting something like Multiple Sclerosis.  None of us knew then what we know now about Global Acceleration and its effects on consciousness.   My elder son is Developmentally Special, and is currently being treated for "mild schizophrenia" which occasionally complicates his journey.  For the most part, he does quite well.  I created the analogy about a "cheap hotel with thin walls" as a result of my personal dealings with him.

As for me, I have been a Conscious Channel since 1991.  I rarely hear "other voices" as being distinct from my own consciousness---unless I am dreaming or in deep meditation.  But expanding energies bubble up inside me daily, just like a fountain.  I have the Gifts of Clairsentience and Clair-cognizance.  I take what comes to me and I translate that into expanded concepts and share my writings, in hopes of learning more, and offering whatever assistance I can to a society deep in the throes of Collective Labor and Delivery.  And who (or what) are we delivering?  Nothing less than OUR VERY OWN FUTURESELF.

"Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your  understanding.

Even as the stone of the fruit must break,
that its heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.
And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles
of your life, your pain would not seem less wondrous than
your joy; and you would accept the seasons of your heart,
even as you have always accepted the seasons that pass over
your fields.

And you would watch with serenity through the winters of your
grief....  And the cup he brings, though it burn your lips, has been
fashioned of the clay which the Potter has moistened with His own sacred tears."
